Here we have the first batch of Camaro parts that were run through the booth for color. All three of us started this morning by blocking the fenders, doors, bottom of the trunk and the lower front valence. Once they were all blocked out we slid them into the booth and started prepping them for paint. We wiped the down with degreaser. This removes all contaminates that are on the panel. Next we blew them off with compressed air and tacked them with a tack cloth. The tack cloth removes fine dust and lent that land on them. Once thats done, its time for sealer. We seal 99% of what we paint here. It provides a uniform coating for the top coats to cover. It also fills all the small sanding scratches and improves adhesion. After the sealer sets up for it recommended flash time, Chase started spraying the color. 3 coats of color were applied to these parts. After the recommended flash time on the color coats, Chase laid down 3 very nice slick coats of high solids clear. After a few days of drying, the clear on the outside of these panels will get blocked again with 1000 grit paper, then 2000 grit paper then 3000 grit paper. This is where the “High Performance Finishes” part comes from. This is were the shine on these parts become a mile deep. Tomorrows plan will be to paint the outsides of the doors and trunk. Not bad for a days work. Not too bad.
