Finally getting primed

We have been steadily plugging along on the FJ over the past couple of weeks and here is where we stand on it. The rain gutters have been stripped and cleaned out. A nice coat of epoxy was applied to the gutters followed by a flowable seam sealer. They really look nice and smooth now. Jordan also worked pretty diligently on sanding the nooks and crannies. It seemed like every time it was ready for primer another spot was found that needed attention. Cole prepped the under side and the top side of the hood today and with a little luck, we may start spraying some parts next week. We do have the body ready for primer now and It will go into the booth first thing Monday morning.

Code red

  More progress on code red today. The running boards, lower dash and a fender extension were all painted today. While Paul was spraying these, Chris and I was sanding the fenders and cab in preparation for buffing. We started off by sanding the parts with 1000 grit to remove the slight peel. This is where the looks like glass comes from. After the we sand with 1000, we switch to 2000 and sand it by hand again. Once that was completed we sand it a third time with 3000 grit but on a DA sander. This process makes buffing a little easier and really makes for a nice finished product. We will start buffing these out tomorrow and should get it done and all cleaned and polished up.

Etching the Mustang

The Mustang has under gone some transformations today. We had to strip all the paint off the door and quarter because of a previous repair that failed. So to ensure that it doesn’t happen again, we properly treated the metal with an etching primer followed by a urethane primer. The etching primer bites into the metal and the urethane primer bites to the etching primer. The urethane primer offers us a nice sandable finish to apply our sealers and paints that will come next week. While we were priming, Paul also sprayed some primer on the repaired dented areas as well. Tomorrow we plan on sanding this one and getting it washed up and ready for paint.
